And why would we want to?
If we consider what an infant eats and compare it to what an adult eats, there is quite a difference. Babies drink breast milk and adults do not.
Gone are the days we spent suckling at our mother’s breasts to gain nourishment and grow. But have you ever thought about why breast milk helps infants thrive?
Breast milk contains lauric acid, a natural fatty acid that when digested forms a substance called monolaurin. Monolaurin can kill off microorganisms. Pathogens like bacteria, viruses, and fungi are completely wiped out when an infant digests its mother’s milk.
Now that is a miracle of nature.
I want that!
Miraculously, nature has already provided it for us inside of a coconut. Believe it or not, lauric acid is found in the common coconut and we didn’t even know it.
So let’s explore that.
As women age, we should go back to the basics. What worked for us once, will work for us again. Lauric acid can, and will, provide us with that extra round of protection as we age and enter menopause.
Coconut oil is one of the first natural remedies I tried when searching for natural ways to treat menopause symptoms.
As usual, I became the guinea pig.
I jumped in with both feet and began to shovel coconut oil in by the spoonful, even against popular belief that it is harmful for you. It’s a fat after all. But… as I discovered, it’s no more harmful than breastmilk.
It’s a good fat!
I can’t stress enough about the value of eating good fats during menopause. A lot of people think that you need to do low-fat everything, but from the studies I have read, I found that not to be true.
We need good fats for heart health and coconut oil is one of them.
Now, I can tell you that I spent a small fortune on coconut oil over the years, simply because not all coconut oil is created equal. Some are cold pressed, some have been heated up, and some have fillers in.
You really have to do your research and find out how it’s made before you buy it.
The best kind is the DME cold pressed coconut oil. DME stands for Direct Micro Expelling, meaning it has been harvested as naturally as possible allowing the natural qualities to still be there. If you heat it up it destroys the natural qualities that make it so good for you.
And what are those natural qualities?
Coconut oil contains fatty acids, more specifically medium chain triglycerides. Basically they metabolize differently than other fats in our diet. That’s a good thing for menopause because this means that it is immediately converted into energy for us, and doesn’t stick to our waistline.
Nearly 50% of the fatty acids found in coconut oil contain lauric acid. That gives it the same lovely qualities as breast milk, as we already found out. Because of that, it is an antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral, and protects the immune system.
Ladies, we need that during menopause!
Studies prove that coconut oil is a natural treatment for Alzheimer’s, high blood pressure, kidney infections. It also protects the liver.
According to one study done in India it has been proven to be more effective than conventional treatments for arthritis and the reduction of inflammation.
It is said to prevent cancer, improve memory and brain function, as well as give us more energy and endurance. It can reduce stomach problems like ulcers, and improve digestion. It can reduce symptoms from pancreatitis and gallbladder issues.
The list goes on and on. It can whiten teeth, improve skin issues, prevent osteoarthritis, and type II diabetes. Coconut oil is said to balance the insulin levels in the cell.
Coconut oil can help with weight loss, and build muscles at the same time. That’s incredible! It is also a proven treatment for yeast infections and Candida.
It has anti aging qualities as well, so for us older gals, it’s a win-win situation.
It also balances hormones, and even wards off hot flashes.
I would highly suggest trying coconut oil. I take at least 1 tablespoon a day. I just shovel it in like peanut butter, as crazy as that sounds. I’ve tried other methods of ingesting it like mixing it in food or cooking with it, but for me it was just easier to use as a supplement.
I definitely felt a benefit immediately when I first started using it.
I plan to continue supplementing with coconut oil every day. It hasn’t harmed me at all, and I’ve been taking it for over four years. When I first started it, everyone gave me grief saying it was totally unhealthy because it was fat, and I shouldn’t believe everything I read on the Internet.
But that wasn’t the case at all!
Don’t listen to the naysayers!
Try it for yourself.
It may very well be what you need to push you through menopause, and be the best natural remedy for menopause symptoms you’ve ever found!
You can use it as a feminine hygiene product. Yes!
What I mean by this is self-explanatory I hope, but if you need a little bit more detail, here it goes. You can use coconut oil daily as a vaginal moisturizer and protectant from disease because of its wonderful antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral qualities.
This is amazing news for the menopausal woman because as we age, we become drier where we once were moist, and that makes us susceptible to all kinds of vaginal infections and uncomfortable maladies.
Using coconut oil as a moisturizer down there, makes total sense. You can even take a quarter teaspoon of coconut oil, drop it in plastic, wrap it up into individual bullet looking suppositories, and freeze. Once frozen you can unwrap and use it as a suppository for the vagina. For those who need this cool lubricated support, I say go for it girl!
Tried tested and true!
And for all those women who are wondering if you can use it as a lube for sex, you can! You can also use it before and after as a soap. Yes, a soap!
It’s the best soap you’ll ever use, and best deodorizer as well!
Ward off those painful UTI’s and ditch your perfumed soaps for coconut oil, a non-fragranced natural gem that I personally will be using for a long long time!
